The Resilient Protagonist: Theater & Mindfulness for Mental Well-being

Join Co-Executive Director Maria Schaedler-Luera and Company Member and star of Clowns Like Me, Scott Ehrenpreis for a 1.5-hour professional development (PD) session designed for anyone seeking tools to support mental well-being—parents, educators, caregivers, and community members alike. This interactive online workshop uses theater-based activities and mindfulness practices to explore mental health through the lenses of emotional awareness, resilience, and creativity.

Participants will gain practical strategies to manage stress, foster connection, and cultivate clarity and balance in their daily lives. Step into the role of the resilient protagonist and leave with a toolkit of actionable techniques to navigate challenges with confidence and calm.

This workshop provides a space for reflection, conversation, and creative exploration. No prior theater experience is necessary. Even in moments of solitude, we are never truly alone.

Navigating Loneliness Through Creativity

LifeLine Productions, in partnership with NAMI, will be hosting a professional development workshop at YANA Sarasota on April 30th from 5-7 PM.

This interactive session is designed for educators, mental health professionals, caregivers, artists, and anyone interested in exploring loneliness and connection through creative expression. Using Image Theater, a technique developed by Augusto Boal, along with storytelling and movement-based exercises, participants will:

  • Examine the difference between loneliness and being alone – When is solitude a choice, and when does it feel like disconnection?

  • Explore why we feel lonely – What causes loneliness, and how does it show up in our lives?

  • Use Image Theater to express and reshape experiences of loneliness – Engaging the body and imagination to explore new perspectives.

  • Practice self-advocacy – How can we express our needs and seek support?

  • Discover creative tools for connection – Finding ways to engage with emotions and build meaningful relationships.

College Performances

As part of our mission we brought Clowns Like Me to the five area college campuses for a performance at no charge in January 2025. In partnership with the Cross College Alliance we aimed to encourage a conversation on mental health and lead students to on-campus resources.

Playback Theatre Workshop

Inspired by our hit show Clowns Like Me, participants were invited to share their personal experiences and the impact of mental illness and developmental disorders in their lives to help create a dynamic live theatrical experience.

The Words We Use Matter

Our recent program held at YANA Sarasota provided participants an opportunity to understand how we can best support those with mental health issues, and advocate for understanding and compassion for those living with mental illness.

Guided Talk-Back Sessions

Each production includes a post-show talk-back session where our actors, staff, and mental health professionals provide an opportunity for audience members to share their experiences, ask questions, and seek guidance.
